They usually start growing this month, you can't avoid pruning now.

Seattle generally prunes in mid February. Here in Olympia mid March is the usual time. Most people's roses are already starting to grow. Mine have a couple inches new growth on them. Doesn't matter, just prune at your usual time anyway.

Did you have a cold spell in January? we didn't. A foot of snow, and then an ice storm, but no cold spell. That's why the roses are already growing, it never got particularly cold this winter. Low 30s during that storm - not what I call cold.

I have finished pruning my climbers.... and have the scars to prove it. But my favourite, specimen is called "Island Pearl" and was developed on one of the coastal islands here. A cross of something with Rambling Rector... does anyone else have one? Really beautiful, but vicious!
