Is Dormant Oil the best thing to use on deciduous trees now? So far my fruit trees are getting by without me doing anything. Maybe if I wanted to use something as a preventative measure Dormant Oil might be the best. It suffocates good and bad insect eggs. So far no problem and spraying pesticides is a waste of time. I'm all for things that work.

Lilydude, I read somewhere that there's an agricultural supply store in Portland called Concentrates (2613 SE 8th) that sells Surround.

Dormant Oil is good and now is the time, but careful not to get it on conifers. It is very toxic to firs and evergreen needle type plants.
A bit of malathion ads a real punch to it if you're not organical.
It has been discovered that horticulture oils are also a good powdery mildew control on grapes, in the growing season. Better than sulfer in fact.

The West Cascades Fruit growers is a volunteer group / club that promotes home fruit tree culture in the PNW.
They have chapters throughout the Northwest. Closest to Tacoma is the Tahoma Chapter. Would be a lot of ideas on insect and disease control as well as suggestions for varieties more resistant.
