Only the shedding by the camellia is cause for alarm. The other shrubs are deciduous, dropping all their leaves every year. The passion vine would be expected to send out new stems in spring, if a locally hardy type like bluecrown passionflower growing in the ground or otherwise situated so the roots did not freeze and die.

Try the fingernail test. Often, if you scratch the stem of a plant with your fingernail and it is green, then it's still alive. Spring is just around the corner and our grey gardens will soon look a whole lot better!

You wait. It's not warm enough yet for many plants to grow back. You might not see the passion vine again until May or June. Deutzia and Weigela can tolerate very cold temperatures; I'm sure they will be fine.

Eucs, poor eucs, grey, straw colored, shedding once-beautiful leaves, no idea if they'll come back, from trunk or ground. Oh they were so beautiful.

Patience is necessary, I hate looking at "dead" sticks too but it is too soon to prune or know for many.

The "dead" growth can protect if we have more weather. Pruning it down too soon can kill.

All of those plants, except the camellia, are supposed to drop their leaves in winter. Passion vines normally die to the ground in our winters.

With the camellia, the drooping does not sound good, but you won't know for sure until it warms up in spring. The fingernail test looking for green inner bark is not 100% reliable. A woody plant can look fine above ground and yet still be dead, if the circulation system between roots and stems has been damaged; the stems can keep going in cool weather until they need more water than the damaged circulation system can supply. But, your camellia may be just fine, and just drop damaged leaves and resprout a whole new set in spring.

So you won't really know what's dead until April or May or even June, depending on how long it takes to warm up.

Sometimes after being frozen those look OK clear until spring flowering and then everything falls off.
