Sorry, no wet feet :-) Heaths and heathers require well-draining yet moisture retentive soil. Acidic soil that contains a good amount of coarse organic matter is ideal - the coarseness will encourage drainage while the OM will help to hold moisture. Heavy clay or low spots that allow water to accumulate for any period of time are not going to be to their liking. Planting them on the slope is certainly an option but not at the bottom where water could pool or accumulate.

Have you considered installing a French drain to alleviate the front yard drainage issues? Water that drains to and accumulates against a foundation is asking for some problems down the road.

I'm not sure what a French drain is so will do some searching. We need to do something.

Berm with pit run and plant in that. It won't protect the house, but it will get the heather above the water.

I don't think they browse them, probably poisonous like rhododendrons. I've never noticed damage.

Thanks bboy, I was wondering if I should put it out front or not... I love my rhodies... and I thought the heathers would look nice coming into the yard....
