Hi cweyer8622, Marie here. You've got great bones for your kitchen in that looks like you've painted the cabinets white - good choice - . Make sure you are using a semi to high gloss paint on those cabinets, or they will get very dirty looking quickly.

I can't see your countertop colour / material choice - love the wood island! Perfect to help ground the space. From the light fixture over the table, and the wicker chairs, I'm sensing a "French country" feel to your look here. I would definitely do a carrara marble backsplash - honeycomb or herringbone is more traditional, while the linear or variated heights is more modern. You can do either / or, its a matter of your personal preference. Make sure the marble accentuates the countertop colour and doesn't compete for attention. Being that you have white cabinets, you can do lots of variable for backsplash - I prefer the marbles for that upscale european look. Then, once you've chosen your marble, pull a tone from that marble or your countertops for your wall paint colour. I love soft dove grays with white kitchens, it ties in the stainless steel but has a warm undertone to it. General Paint Womb is one of my favorites, or SICO Sketch.

Light fixtures - I'd only add one small pendant over your sink - but not over the island - your kitchen is too small to handle that many. I love the mix of chrome with more traditional - if your a purist, then go with antique gold. Its a warm gold with undertones / flecks of silver and brown. You'd need to change out your kitchen table chandelier as well - make sure the two compliment each other. One of my favorite over the sink pendants is the TransGlobe PND-180, http://www.lightingsquad.com/tra-pnd-180.html. Its delicate enough to go with any fixture - even goes nicely with brushed nickel.

Commit to your metal colour, you can do brushed nickel, chrome, antique gold, pewter, or even matte black. Then do your cabinetry hardware and lighting in the same metal colour.

Thanks for your comments Marie. The counters are Silestone in Ebony Pearl. My first choice for backsplash is Carrera herringbone but I have needed a second opinion! I like that pendant you recommended.......I will change the table light out once I figure out which way to go on everything else. My hardest decision has been finish on the cabinet hardware....nickel reminds me of my stainless appliances so a little boring.....I never thought I would consider it but matte black is looking like an option. Any suggestions? Unfortunately the kitchen is open to the rest of the house and there's no way I could bring another wall color into the picture...walls are currently Ben Moore White Sand which actually looks lovely in my house......i tried many grays and couldn't find anything that worked well in the space.
