Hardy fuchsia leaves dropping

Hi,

I just bought a couple of hardy fuchsia starts and transplanted them in the ground. I noticed that the leaves on one of them have started dropping? Is this normal? Should I have waited for the temp to rise before transplanting them?

Can anyone help me?

For hardy fuchsias to have leaves on them at this time of year, they've been grown with some protection - greenhouse, hoophouse, etc. So what you are seeing is very likely a reaction to colder temperatures outdoors than what they've been used to. If they are truly hardy varieties - and there is a wide range of hardiness involved - then they should releaf as the weather warms. Right now, most varieties of hardy fuchsias established in the ground are showing little more than bud nubbins along the stems or new shoots at the base. They tend to be pretty late to emerge in spring.

These are the varieties that I got... 'Display', 'Mrs Popple' and 'Spring Bells'
