Whiteflys are attracted to the color yellow, if you made some traps, strips or pieces of anything yellow and smeared something sticky on them like Tanglefoot you will get rid of a lot of the little b...... You have to keep after them though, they're the devil to get rid of.

There are various home remedies that seem to work better than commercial sprays. I haven't made one in awhile, but it seems like the gist was some kind of soap (shampoo, murphy's, or soap flakes, I think), some kind of oil, and maybe some alcohol(?). They abound. Maybe if you sprayed both the heap and the plant - the problem, of course, will be getting the underside of the leaves with the spray.

It maybe wouldn't hurt to hit it with some compost tea, too, to help the vine fight off the little buggers. I hate white fly!

thanks for your help.As for the plant that was there before ( vine) I removed it it was totally infected so that is gone.I am going to vacum today ( no rain) Yes I read about yellow so I'm planning to put some vaselie on it ( I have plenty of it) Just hope that the rain won't damage it too soon.I have always had white flies and they are so annoying, but I have never had so many of them.The plant was a problem I know.But the bin? Maybe because the vine was just next to it? I do hope to get rid of them soon.Thanks so much again.Scarleta

These aren't fungus gnats, are they? If the vine had whiteflies they looked like little white moths.

I KEEP COMPOST IN MY GREEN HOUSE AND TODAY I BROUGHT A HEAVY BIN OUTSIDE TO MIX IT WITH MANURE, TOP SOIL AND GARDEN SOIL. I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW QUICKY GREEN BOTTLE FLIES LANDED ON THE COMPOST MIXTURE!

I SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN SURPRISED AS THERE WAS AN ORANGE GOOEY SUBSTANCE THAT SMELL, PLEASE EXCUSE ME, LIKE VOMIT. IT WAS HORRIBLE. HAS ANYONE HAD THAT EXPERIENCE? I KNOW WHAT NOT TO PUT IN COMPOST, SO IT WAS ABSOLUTELY NOT PROTEIN BASED. I WAS A VEGY OR FRUIT......I JUST CAN FIGURE OUT WHICH ONE. HAS ANYONE AN IDEA? THANKS
