Winter Moth Problem in roses

Hello All,

I planted 2 rose plants and it so happened that they are close to a cherry tree infested with winter moths and now I see that my rose plant leaves are eaten by some pests. I sprayed some neem spray with no luck. We have taken an appointment with tree company to get Cherry tree sprayed but before they come is there something I could do with my roses. I feel miserable to see them as I selected disease resistant (Mister Lincoln and Dreams come true) varities and now they are running into this problem. Please advice me to protect my roses.

Roses will recover fine from winter moth damage if they are otherwise healthy.

Depending on the size of your cherrry tree, you might try Bt, a non-toxic bacteria, next time. It kills the winter moths within 3 days but stops them from eating immediately. I applied this to medium-sized trees last year with a pump sprayer, and it was not hard.

Don't let the tree company talk you into spraying toxic chemicals on the cherry, it's not necessary - especially since the winter moth season does not last very long. Bt is highly effective as long as they are feeding.
