Transplanted Rhodie bounce-back probability?

In January, I scored several mature rhodies of differing sizes and varieties. I moved them off a knoll with very light soil and was surprised by their meager root systems. All but the biggest are doing well. It looks like a molting chicken...lots of leaf drop in February and it was leggy to begin with. If it lives, will it really "bounce back" or will be a Charlie Brown shrub for the rest of it's (in that case, limited) days? I've transplanted lots of rhodies and they've all thrived so this is a new one for me.
