It's not that the annuals are early - it's a more a case of our "normal" spring weather being late :-)) We are running 10-15 degrees colder than normal for this time of year. Basket type fuchsias are pretty cold sensitive and I'd keep them in until nighttime temperatures remain above 40F. Other annuals may be more suited to colder temps and can be planted out now but there is still the very real possibility of additional frosts, which can be a problem for anything other than perhaps pansies and violas.

I put my fuchsia baskets out in the lath house the end of april every year, sometimes that is a bit on the early side but I need to free up some space in my greenhouse for other things. It's really cold for the time of year up here to and it's definitely still to early around here to plant out things like petunias marigold etc. The rule of thumb is not before mother's day and for somethings not till after the 24th of may. All the box and grocery stores are starting to sell annuals, yes good prices BUT unless you have a greenhouse, sunporch or like to grow them on you are just wasting your money. Plant them out now and most will not recover to grow on and make nice plants.

Thanks guys! I bought some salvias, geraniums starts and snapdragons too. I will keep everything protected for longer. I wish I had a greenhouse. I do have a cutout of our house, it's three-walled that has the dryer vent there as well. I've overwintered lots of things there that have made it. It's a good spot. All of my rose rooted cuttings and mini roses overwintered there without problems. It does seem to have been one nasty and long winter. :o(
