It does sound like it is trying to revert. I don't know the genetics behind this but I suppose that variegated plants are sort of freaks of nature, some variegations are stronger than others. I always cut out any reversions on variegated plants. I have had this happen on hostas, grasses, and Japanese maple trees and it seems to do the trick. Keep us posted!
