You will save a ton of cash if you do this yourself :-) Sod cutters can be rented from any rental equipment store and are easy to use. I've done this many times myself and I'm no spring chicken!

And there is still plenty of time to plant. Nursery stock should be more than adequate for the rest of the season unless you are looking for specialty items and even these can be had with a little effort. With the exception of most trees and some shrubs that have to be ordered well in advance of the growing season, local nurseries restock on a weekly basis. Heck, there's still a lot of later season plants that are still to show up at area nurseries, especially with respect to perennials.
