Marinakos' have great displays and a wide selection. 22 miles east on I-90 in Preston. Well worth the drive.

I agree about Marenako's. Even their website is fun to visit.

Marenako's is gorgeous, varied, and very expensive. My trip out there to find rocks for seating resulted in a quote of a minimum $500 delivery charge to Renton. So instead, I buy my pavers and rocks from Dowell's in Kent - paid $85 for delivery and received an additional discount on my purchases.

For a good, in-city rockyard check out Lakeview Stone located just east of the University Village. They also have a south Seattle location. A pretty wide selection of stackable stone suitable for low retaining walls. And they deliver. Prices are competitive but less than Marenako's.

I live in the Central District too, and I liked the 4th ave south location of Lakeview Stone. They were helpful, delivery of the pallet was $50, and the delivery guy was also helpful.

Lakeview Stone and Garden in the U District has a great selection of stone for walls and underfoot and just about anything else you can think of. The service is friendly and they can be very helpful. They also have a location in Georgetown that has interior slabs for counter tops in addition to the same stuff the North location has. This is a cool place to wander around when you are exploring the possibilities of what could be.

A great stone/rock place is Rock Mountain in Redmond, WA. They have everything that Marenako's has for a much more reasonable price. Marenako's is a total rip off, they do have a wide selection, but unfortunately, they charge a higher price on ALL the rocks/stones to be able to offer that variety. There is a rock yard in Snohomish called Simply Rocks that will beat any competing price, and has unprecedented customer service. They even offer on-sight consultations for DIYers.
