I keep hearing that you should let the flower completely die back and then maybe tie down the dead foliage to make it less noticable- why is this and how long do you you have to wait to get rid of the dead growth so your garden will look fresh again?

I had a wonderful collection of tulips, some daffodils this year, all blossomed late due to the crap Spring weather- now my garden is starting to look a bit tired and "overgrown" LOL

I'm excited I have an Iris finally going to bloom again this year after it took a break last year.
