Yep. I have at least 9. They take time to establish and don't like cold temps. But if they can be coaxed to establish oh boy are those flowers potently wonderful! Mine aren't blooming yet ...

I have 2 of them and they are still getting established after 4 years.This spring I noticed some of the branches are dead and they have black sticky stuff on the leaves? Should I spray.They don't look happy.What should I spray with? Its the black sticky stuff that won't come off with the water spray? Thanks

The black sticky stuff is likely mold growing on honeydew left by aphids. Look closer to see the aphids. Aphids respond well to insecticidal soap.

Thanks Buyorsell: I did not see anything on it.Today I sprayed and cleaned up quite a bit with just water.Also gave it some fertilizer.I suppose I can use I soap as I have some.Thanks so very much..

Honeydew may be dripping from infested plants overhead, in which case there was no point in spraying an insecticide on the star jasmine itself. To get rid of the sooty mold, figure out where the honeydew is coming from and address that. If there are no nearby sources then there would then have to in fact be an infestation on the star jasmine. If that is true then maybe a hand lens is needed for you to see it.
