Old tires give off toxic heavy metals.

Oh yuck never thought of that. I did plant potatoes in tires quite a few years ago putting a pipe in the centre with holes drilled in to get the water down to the bottom. It worked very well. Now that I hear about the toxins though... must explain that weird tail I've been growing!!
