It's been snowing up here at 1100 ft. this afternoon. It's supposed to continue through tomorrow night. I spent the afternoon moving seedlings into the cold frame and spreading row cover over my sprouted wintersown milk jugs. It gets discouraging, doesn't it?

Summer does not come to this area until after July 4th celebrations get rained out. Then it heats right up, bakes our plantings.

I'm not looking for summer yet, but a little more spring and a little less winter would sure be nice.

I agree - this is October/November or February/March weather! I am disgusted!

I too am totally fed up with the wind and cold. Yesterday was awful. Today it is bright and sunny but very cold. I think spring weather is predicted for the next few days. It can't come soon enough for me!

40s and 50s F. does not seem that unusual to me. Many plants seem to be luxuriating in the current weather.

Well, better this than the Nashville floods.

Spring is frustrating to me. It rains so much, the ground is muddy and the weeds are growing. The plant sales are out in full force but dry planting days are not really available....

I was all "oh poo, this is just typical PNW weather!" then today man... it just pissed me off. Cold! Rain! Bah!

April was the cruelest month in Portland, new record of 25 days rain, although it only amounted to about 3".

May has gone backwards from that so far.

It's supposed to frost tonight, I'm wondering what will happen if anything to the irises and columbines that are blooming now. I just put tunnels over several beds where I am going to plant out some new perennials/herbs/native plants I've started from seed and hope to establish.

Hardy perennials should not be bothered, except any coming from regions where it never frosts at this stage in their development.
