I have them and don't care for them at all. You're supposed to train the main branch around the spirals, but most tomatoes have so many branches that this does not work. I always have to add a couple stakes for the other large branches. Plus, last year the weight of a couple of my larger plants actually made the spirals fall over! It was terrible. I would stick with heavy duty cages if I were you, especially with more vigorous tomato varieties.

thanks DRcindy: I was checking to see if anyone replied and thought that perhaps no one used them.Went to get them and put some up.Did manage to break on cane in the process ( you know I started them in a green house and put lots of work in them) I was so, so very sad about it.It had flowers already...Maybe it will recover? I did reanastomosis on it will see.Anyways I have more than one branch on some of them so I had to put two...What a waste.I will leave it now and be more careful not to snap any more branches.I can say cages are better a bit late now because I arranged them all around.Thanks...

Sorry to hear about your broken cane! That is another difficulty with the spirals; you must start them on very young plants so you can train it along the spiral as it grows. Otherwise you'll have to bend the existing branches which can be precarious. I've heard that some people like to prune their tomato plants to a single leader (I never do). In that case, maybe the spiral would be OK. However, most tomato plants are just so bushy, so the spiral doesn't provide adequate support.

Thanks yes they want to remove suckers ? I think.I read somewhere that these provide as you said more support and also more nutrients are absorbed with all the greens.This time around I will make it a bit more bushy for support.So far my broken can is surviving I am amazed really because it snapped almost totally was hanging on a tiny string and I attached it carefully back.I did this once on cabbage and it worked fine but on tomatoe I am so pleased ( maybe too soon but today it looks like its still alive.Thanks drcindy and I will stick to cages..in the future too late for this year...
