Calendula and several different kinds of roses - I'm thinking about Anytime, Mrs. Oakley Fisher, Livin' Easy. There are so many. You might check for a hybrid musk or polyantha that's on the small side. Daylilies or Asiatic lilies could work. Also nice but smaller flower is geum. Oriental poppies.

For instant orange, what about Dahlias or Tagets? I just bought a couple of dahlias that are a lovely orange. With all of our gloomy weather it's nice to have something bright.

I would add Echinacea (several new shades available in the last few years), Rudbeckia (many different cultivars in various orange tones) or phygelius (couple of unique shades of orange as the flowers interior is a different shade than the flowers exterior)to your list.

Orange is my favorite flower color, it just seems to make a garden pop. Maybe a photo down the road so we can see what you did?

Purple and orange together is fabulous.

There are some really bright Asiatic hybrid lilies and of course, roses.

You might be interested in the link below talking about orange and yellow roses. There are other orange roses in the modern classes that are probably discussed on the /roses forum, like Gingersnap, Brass Band, etc. If you want a perennial, there are lots of good orange daylilies. For an annual there are lots of good nasturtiums and marigolds. Then there's zinnias, sunflowers, etc.

Thank you for all your suggestions!! It's going to be hard to decide! Roses and dahlias both might be nice to have something blooming for awhile. Thanks hemnancy for the rose link, lot's of good ideas there too!! The big nursery (not sure if I can name names) by us is having their 2 for 1 tomorrow, I'll bring my list with me!

I love these orange lilies. I also like nasturtiums too. Nasturtiums are really easy to grow from seed.

How about crocosmia?

Lots of great orange suggestions there. I currently have a deep orange colored alstromeria blooming. Nearby are lavender clary sage, purple opium poppies & knifophia in shades of orange/peach/cream. The colors play of each other well. A bit of white and/or yellow also makes these colors pop.

And don't forget the California poppies. Not tall, but with enough warm sun and good drainage they're care free and indestructible and will reseed freely. Just yank out what you don't want.

Orange and purple is a great combo. I love CA poppies underneath purple smokebush.

I don't think any hybrid musk or polyantha roses come in orange. Margo Koster would be the closest, and it's more of a dark salmony corally color. Mini roses have a complete color range and might fit better into the size you want. Most get a couple feet tall, some more. They still have the same disease problems of their larger cousins.

For carefree orange color you can't beat dahlias and lilies and marigolds, they're much easier than most roses. But for long bloom season a combo of roses for early summer and dahlias for late summer would work great.

My favorite orange roses are Artistry and Shreveport.
