Millions of tiny black things - what are they??

They cover pretty much the whole top of the soil in this container, and they are SMALL, I'm surprised my iphone was able to capture them in this close up detail, they areas be the size of a ball point pen ball. I can only say they are in a container of raspberries that have been almost decimated by raspberry sawfly larvae. Any ideas?

Could be. The pupa that drop to the ground should be elongated and your objects look spherical.

More commonly referred to as frass.

Not sure but do you have large palm trees in your area? Could be seeds coming off those trees

My next question would be, should I destroy this raspberry plant and get some new ones? Are there some sawfly resistant varieties out there? Every time I try to look for plants via resistance I have very little luck?
