The bottlebrush has become a nice specimen. As reported in Trees of Seattle - Second Edition the two Cordyline banksii at the Ballard Locks have also flowered but I haven't been there at the right time to see it.

I too, love the fragrance of Pittosporum tobira. Miss it from former life in Phoenix.

You can also grow it in Portland. Cistus has a couple variegated forms.

Sorry, that should read 'huntington pink'! The other Abutilon is A. megapotamicum 'red'. The Abutilon 'hunting pink' lost it's leaves, but I planted it in November right before the cold snap we had. The 'red' seems to be a superior variety, as it is evergreen, and has blooms in the winter as well as spring and summer. I also bought a new one called Abutilon megapotamicum 'kirston's pink'. Here is a pic. I have hopes this will do as well as 'red'. I believe this is a fairly new one. They are all probably short term in this climate, but they aren't expensive to buy, and might last quite a few years if lucky. Take care.
