It's an elderberry, Sambucus 'Black Lace'. As a shrub, elderberries can get to be a pretty good size (8'x8', perhaps more) but this one tends to grow somewhat more slowly and it can be pruned back hard if necessary.

I see them all over the place. They are usually in white pots that say "Proven Winners" on the sides.

I've seen mature ones that are bigger than 8' tall. They are gorgeous but I don't have room. :(

Cultivar is not 'Black Lace' but rather 'Eva'. Black Lace is trademark used to sell 'Eva' - a patented cultivar in the US.

I did find one at Lowe's. Now, to find the right spot to plant it. I'm thinking we'll have to make a spot!

I've seen other Proven Winners items at Lowe's so I know they are getting some of their stuff. All you have to do is get there before they let them bake and collapse or shrivel.
