anyone know what this plant is?

I bought it last fall from a sale bin, it was thin and gangly. The greenhouse people said it was a jasmine and that it would grow like crazy, so I planted it accordingly. East side of the yard beside a fence and some cedars for shelter from the winter wind and with a trellis to climb. It gets sun most of the day.

Now I'm not so sure. A year later and the poor thing has put out about 10 new leaves and that's it. The leaves are tiny, around 2cm. I'm worried I have it planted in a bad spot and don't know how to improve it without knowing what it really is.

Any thoughts?

Probably Trachelospermum asiaticum 'Tricolor'. Other variegated cultivars are grown also. T. asiaticum can be quite slow in this climate.

Interesting and thank you. I never really noticed it was variegated before. I thought it was getting sunburned.

When you mentioned it I went and took some better pics.

bboy is correct.

Not actually jasmine though known as star jasmine or confederate jasmine.

The variegated ones aren't heavy bloomers but the bigger leaved solid green T. jasminoides are and they smell divine.

They want heat here. They are common groundcovers and trellis vines in Phoenix, Las Vegas, LA and all over the South.

Do I have it planted in a good spot then? Mostly sunny, should be getting quite a bit of heat from the fence at it's back. I wanted it up the trellis but maybe I should just let it go for ground cover???
