After a fairly cold winter, the Abutilons in my garden are going strong, even though they lost all foliage during the winter. I planted these in November which did not help. I guess now that they are established, I can hope the flowers might stay going during at least part of the winter. I am sure they will vary by variety.

The Abutilons pictured are all varieties of megapotamicum, with the exception of 'huntington pink', and Abutilon pictum 'Thompsonii'. Abutilon pictum 'Thompsonii' is the one that I would not recommend to anyone wanting to have the plant winter over. No guarantee any will for sure. It did here, but is having a tough time putting leaves back on, and forget about flowers. The plant is about 5' tall too. You would think it would be more vigorous. The 'Thompsonii' pictured was planted this spring, which explains the flowers and foliage.

I am just experimenting with these plants, so I don't have much personal experience with them over time. These plants might croak this winter, so I am not recommending them to anyone as iron clad, or anything close to that. Just having some fun. Take care.
