Sudden very hot weather like we just had does it for me. I think the earlier picked and dealt with the less you lose.

The problem I have is year-old canes dying from the tips down, the leaves and canes turning brown, the fruits staying very small even if they manage to turn red. The current year's canes seem OK but may be sick next year.

Dotty, my raspberries have just started doing the same thing, I guess we can put it down to the sudden extremely hot spell we've just had. This is the first time this has happened to ours.
How's your garden holding up to this heat we're not use to? I've got Clematis that were beautiful and now they're crispy. a very sad state my garden is right now.

I'm glad to hear I'm not alone with my raspberry problem. I think it is the heat and sunshine after the months of gloom. It's been a lot of work keeping things watered -- I've been kept close to home trying to keep up. We got a few drops of rain last night but not enough to even wet down the dust. It's now a dry weed patch!
