Shoot, I wish I would have seen your post in time. That neighborhood is so electic; I imagine the gardens are equally so. How was it?

Gardens made up only about a third of the destinations marked on the map, the rest being shops, a nursery that is open at other times etc. Yards were usual mix I encounter at such events - a few horticulturally interesting places and a greater number of others that were nothing special at all. With the tiny lots and small houses dominant there not all openings offered emgaging views not visible from alleys and sidewalks in a neighborhood I had already walked around in earlier in the year.

Plant nuts would have been interested in the vine collection, the tropicalesque border and the large almond tree that were dominant features at three different gardens. There was also a place that appeared to have been done up by a professional designer - it looked very much like a garden one might see featured in a magazine. Nobody was on hand to interpret it when I walked through.

That was really the greatest appeal of the event, the human element. Where I got to talk to gardeners about their plants/other visitors about plants encountered in gardens being visited or had other such interactions it was the most fun. With our culture anything that gets people out of their cars and houses and mingling is heartening.

Wish I had seen the post earlier as well. I have been to this tour before and enjoyed it a lot--never know what you are going to find.
