Love this plant and I have many. They are growing in full sun in well draining soils though the ones I have in slightly leaner gritty soil are doing/look better than the ones in richer well draining soil. Neither get much water. They have better color in full sun too. No problem getting them through the winter, they are quite hardy in this area.

Hi Bamboomary. (I think we met on the hotel shuttle going to the Seattle Flower & Garden Show a couple of years ago?) Anyhow, thank-you for your post. You say you have many, so perhaps you propagated some of them? If so, what is the easiest or most successful way to do that?

Hi madrone I have a lot of these cuz I work at a nursery (very dangerous for a plant addict!) They are bulbs and seem to grow rather slowly. A few years ago, I saw them in mass in a garden in New Zealand and decided I wanted to do the same thing. Well, I just looked at the photo I took of that garden and it seems like there were not so many. I moved what I had, all together and was more concerned about not disturbing them too much to I didn't look very close at the bulbs. Our nursery gets them from Terra Nova which does tissue culture. Here is a quote from their website:
'The lab team produces plants new to horticulture, and also the means to multiply and distribute these plants around the world. Dozens of new varieties are created each year through flower breeding and laboratory research. Most of these new varieties are then propagated in tissue culture to quickly bring large numbers of healthy plants to market,'
Try googling propagating Eucomis and you will get all kinds of info. None of which I have tried.
