more peas?

I think Scarleta is right. Other than more peas, I don't know what else could grow on a trellis right now, and actually be ready to eat before the weather gets too cold/days too short. Not sure what happens if you crop a 2nd crop on top of the last; probably OK if there's no pests or disease, and you give the ground some compost and fertilizer.

I was very impressed with my runner beans this year, they are supposed to like cool weather and beat my regular pole beans by a lot, even just beating my fastest bush beans, but I haven't tried growing them starting now so can't really say. I presprouted them then planted them out May 17 and got beans starting July 27, just 6 weeks.

runner beans do pretty well late. i am pretty sure i have never started them THIS late, but i've started them in mid july. plus there are varieties that are just plain attractive plants. "painted lady" has cool looking flowers and cool looking beans.
