Eucryphia in full bloom

Every year I try to catch this tree in bloom, but I have been out of town in all but this and last year. The first picture is of a very large Camellia sasanqua. When in bloom it is pink. The rest of the pictures are of this wonderful Eucryphia tree. I can see it from my childrens upstairs window when in bloom. It is at least a couple of weeks late this year.

I have read that they are "honey scented", but I have never really taken a good sniff in one of the flowers. Maybe I should, now that you mention it! These trees are available in nurseries sometimes, so if you like this tree, you should try it. It can be kept much smaller for the city garden as well. It seems the gardeners in B.C. are a bit more adventurous, which is refreshing to me. Any broadleaf evergreen that is let to become a standard tree, my mother refers to as a goosneck barnacle! It seems the way of the PNW gardener I am afraid.
