In our area, the high clay content of the soil makes for rather intense winter mud - the stuff will literally pull those short clogs and boots right off your feet! And I'm not going to pay big bucks for a "boutique" bootie that's not up to the task. I use a pair of "dairy boots" which reside outside my back door when not in use, perched upside down on a simple frame, where they stay dry and get clean by virtue of the daily rain. I usually wear sweat pants and tuck 'em in the tops of the boots so I stay dry too.

Unless you have a way of cleaning them out all pricey non-breathing footwear is a burn because they all soon become fouled inside and have to be replaced. Will have to look for dairy boots. Another aspect to it is that the Muck products don't provide much protection or support, either, if you are doing any work where you might drop something on your foot or chop your foot boots with steel toes are in order, that is where extra money should go.

I use ladies duck boots from GI Joes in winter, they are warm and waterproof. Cheap too.

I clean my Anywears garden clogs by removing the insoles and washing them with dish soap and water.

I haven't tried the Jobbers but I am a big fan of Muck boots - about the most comfortable shoes I own, pretty much like wearing slippers all day! And when you are on your feet on asphalt and gravel all day in the wet and cold, that's a big plus! My standards are the day shoe - a bit low cut for your purposes, I imagine. I also take out the insoles and launder them periodically.

Over the years I've worn Redwings, Caterpillars, Diehards, cheapo (and uncomfortable) "dairy" type boots, you name it for up to 12 hours per day. The low cut Mucks have been the the most comfortable and practical for most of my gardening chores, although I still use the others for heavier or dirtier jobs.
