Our huge beloved female Kiwi blew down in a big wind storm about 5 or 6 years ago. There was nothing left of the top, but it is growing back from the roots.

We, too, got a bushel or two of fruit about this time of the year. We stored them in a cool, dry place and, as we wanted some to eat, brought them into the house and placed them in a paper bag with an apple. The ethylene gas given off by the ripening apple caused the kiwi to ripen; you can also use a banana.

Dotty, I had a big kiwi crop and found there really is no way to rush the ripening. What I have found is that they can be firm and ripe. By the time they became soft they were soured. So I ate the firm ones and they were quite tasty. Try them firm, you may be surprised.
