You might find the popular Sunset WESTERN GARDEN BOOK useful. Other than that, if you are down in or near Coos Bay you might notice that the "dracaena" (Cordyline australis) plants don't freeze to the ground repeatedly like they do farther north. Once you get down the outer coast that far you are starting to get into higher minimum temperatures (look at the GARDEN BOOK and you will see they have the same climate zone as San Francisco drawn all the way up to Gold Beach), enabling you to grow lots of interesting tender plants we can't keep going as long up here.

It wouldn't be impossible to find online, but maybe contact the Brookings Harbor Garden Club, and see if they know any gardeners up your way, or previous members that moved up there.
