Corn meal is a very mild fertilizer in terms of NPK. It is still very good for your lawn as it contains other needed nutrients and as you suggested it is an organic fungus control agent. Yes fine corn meal is the stuff. I have heard that it can be hard to get through the spreader at times. I use cracked corn because of availability and find it very easy to spread. Do follow up with with SBM for your fall fertilizer. Additionaly some advocate using urea as a final fertilizer after top growth stops. Bill Hill

Anything with protein in it will add nitrogen compounds to feed the soil microbes and then your plants. This was Mother Nature's design in development for over 4 billion years. Soy bean meal has more protein than most of the ground up grains. Corn is low on the list of protein grains.

If you buy corn meal at a grocery store, sometimes you can find it ground as fine as flour. Cracked corn may be what you are thinking of.

Ground grains absorb moisture from the air and tend to clump together.
