LOL! I planted some shasta daisies one time, and when I went out to check on them a few days later they were gone. So I looked around thinking maybe a squirel had dug them up or something, and found them discarded to the side of the bed. So I got them, planted them, and it happened again! I went into the house ranting about my plant that kept mysteriously popping out of the ground. My husband then said you mean that dandaline weed? I was floored...that was no weed! Needless to say my efforts were futile. They died.
My husband always complained about having to mow around my flower beds so I mow, weedeat, ect. So I plant what I want, where I want. I like it that way. I'm sure he does too, lol.

I must admit this year I have really done some damage all by myself..wacked off some cherry tomatoes TWICE, but they are coming back again..whacked off raspberries and the poor fig did not need that lower level haircut! If I dont stay away from the peony bushes they will be trees as there will be no lower level growth..

LOL...I have found some friends...I too,do most of the damage around my own house.No more hollyhocks to weedeat around...cherry tomatoes needed taming back a bit too...
and the air is quite fragrant with the smell of herbs wafting, and ,literally flying thru the air...as I get a bit too close to the border. I am new to this site, but I just love reading what everyone has to say,and all the great ideas,and help,that is offered.

When I first started gardening,I would put a big rock and a stick next to everything I planted,but that was before weedeaters were invented!Now,my biggest problem is the FOOT of dirt that my husband maintains by everything he weedeats and along the sidewalk and around every tree and bed.I'm really not complaining because he does All the mowing and trimming and does a great job and I get to play in the flower gardens.Posy Pet

I won't let DH near the trimmer unless he is in the middle of a 40-acre field. ...........

The WW's(3) have been retired around here. If the weeds are in the flower/vegetable beds, they are pulled, hoed or dug by hand.
If elsewhere and the mower doesn't get them, they usually escape, except dandelions, which I usually behead before they set seed.
BTW, does anyone know what happened to the original GW members that did the posting's back in '04? You never see their names pop up anymore. Guess they could have changed ISP's and had to re-register with a new screen name??

Hi Everyone! It's me...FourSeasons, but now I have to say "Miss"FourSeasons because for various reasons I am back in the Pacific (temporarily)and I am TRULY...MISSING the four seasons of my Missourah home....

Dear oaklief: You can't imagine the tear you brought to my eye by reposting that old post of mine...how I wish now that hubby could weed whack my flowers in Missouri -- today he would weed whack my orchids but even a blind man can see those so they are safe for the time being...

It's a long story of how I came back to the Pacific Islands, and I'll put a "story" of that in my home page for those of you that are interested, but in the meantime wanted to let you all know that I still check up on you guys from time to time and am tickled to see so many of my old friends still around and posting...

We still own our home in Missouri and will eventually be back so ya'll aren't rid of me yet....

Hello MissFourSeasons! You are waaay out of the Ozarks. Hope you're back soon. You haven't missed a lot of fall color or snow here lately, just cold. Were you here for the ice storm in January last year? If you got through that and are still missing the Ozarks, you can get through anything. Glad you popped in to say Hi. You should stick around.

Will certainly stick around, Christie! Unless anyone has any questions about tropicals now, I won't be much help but you all will help keep me in tune with what's happening over there, so I guess I'll get my dose of four seasons vicariously... :)

I did not get to experience the ice storm, but hubby was still there (he finally joined me here in May) and I know it was miserable! He lost power like everyone else for weeks, used all the firewood, and had to go out daily looking for more to keep warm. In a way, I'm envious I didn't get to have the "experience" ... but I certainly lived some of it through his eyes..Hope it doesn't happen again for a very long time...

BTW, I never did get the cypress vine to grow from the seeds you sent me...dog kept "visiting" it. Maybe when I get back...

I didn't save any seeds from my cypress vine this year but will have volunteers come up in the spring. I'll remember to save some seed next summer or if you move back before then, we can see if the volunteers transplant well. I have tried that one before.
