Pepper seed starting time?

Hi guys, I don't really hang out on this forum but I need some advice. There appears to be some conflict as to when to start pepper seed. Some folk say you need 12 weeks to get them to an 8" plant (Not including hardening off time.) Other folk say that such a long time isn't necessary and that 6 to 8 weeks is fine if you have a heat mat to cut down on germination times. I've also heard 8 to 10...

I was just going to start at 9 weeks before last frost but I wanted to hear what you pepper people had to say.

I'm growing: Jimmy Nardello Sweet Italians, Cayenne Longs, and Europeon Hots.
