It's a canker where the tissue has died. Don't know if it's a disease or mechanical damage.. So, please enlighten us with the plant's history, including your city & state.

explain the stake also...

and why it looks like its in the middle of pavement or gravel

Dang I was afraid of that. Is there any thing I could do about the canker? I have other plants I think with with the same issues. I'm located in Central Florida. The avocado tree was repotted and lightly fertilize and watered 2-4 time a week when needed. Here is a plumeria with what looks like canker aswell and a tree of mine all in the general located.

The tree is there a treatment for this?

another picture of the avocado tree with black spot all over it.

your pix are all sideways.. your other pix dont have canker.. that i can see ...

i see lichens on the huge tree...

dont get canker of the mind.. and think your whole yard is infested...

you have multiple issues on different plants .. and i am not sure i see any problems.. other than the avacado .. and i am not sure i would do anything about that.. especially since i cant see the whole plant ...

its very early spring... i would give things a month or two.. and see what happens ...

here is a better pic of the tree

I just think that all of this might be correlated. Even the grass in the area doesn't grow well. Pretty much all weeds

Grass may have gone dormant from cold. Have you compared the tree trunk to pics of lichen? There are many, and after all the rain last summer, there's a banner crop of it all over many trees.

I wasn't sure if you were saying you fertilize your avocado 2-4 times per week? Watering that often sounds like a lot for what I can see of this plant size/pot it is in, during this cooler time of year. Is it drying that quickly?

I'm not to worried about the lichens on the tree more so of the knots and dead limbs on the one side of the tree. Then probable 15ft from that is my plamaria tree that looks to have canker. But my biggest concern is the avocado tree not to sure what is going on there. Black spots everywhere and looks to have a canker. If it is canker what do I do about it can a treat it.
