fly suicide?

I found lots of great bugs this am and am posting some here and over at the insects forum...

I noticed yesterday a fly (not a typical house fly..that's the only type I know, I guess I should say flying insect..) on the end of a green pepper leaf. I went to examine and noticed it was dead..it looked like it was feeding on the leaf and just died..I pulled it off..

This am, 2 more flies, on flowering plants, dead, the same way..looks like they went to bite/feed/suck on the leaf and died..

Went out this evening, over 20 flies, dead..all on different leaves of different plants..a mass suicide? Normal behavior of a certain insect? Picture is of a dead one hanging on to a delphinium leaf..in the back ground..a little black speck is another dead one...Pictures aren't the greatest but it was more of the behavior I was trying to show..

Thanks for any ideas...oh BTW...I have never sprayed, used insecticides...nothing that would poison the bugs..

Mary
