The pictures may have been of the seedheads which are very attractive. The flowers are small, pink drooping and bell shaped. The seed heads are large and feathery.

Late freeze may have been the problem, killing the buds. I live in Southern Ontario and mine are just blooming now, will see seed heads in another few weeks. We expect freeze until mid May and most of our plants hold off blooming till then.

The rule of thumb with perennials is "first year sleep, second year creep, third year leap". So do not expect much in the way of flowers until third summer. And with a late freeze, may be next year.

I just knew you were going to say that! Phooey. My baptistas are in their third year but I moved them after the first year so I figured that was a set back and I wouldn't see flowers until the 4th year. Next year. *sigh* It's hard to wait.

I've found that prairie smoke usually blooms in the spring of it's second year of growth, but some plants may take two years. It's pretty tough...there are great drifts of it on Manitoulin Island that were in seed by the first of June...and they had a nasty late storm that froze a lot of stuff.
It's a neat plant...worth the wait.

I bought my first Geums "cooky" this Spring - also bought just one to try last Spring too...so far none of them have flowered...but I didn't know it took that long to bloom, guess I'll have to be a bit more patient.
