Nice job Jim. Looks great. Did you amend the soil in that bed with any sand or gravel? Or just plant them right into the ground? What type of soil do you guys have there? We have heavy clay.

Good job jim !

You shouldn't wear your Sunday shoes to the greenhouse Jim! Those are for special occasions! Pretty cool little hide-out you got there.Hope that's a beer chest your sitting on?

Thanks guys.
Islb, the whole bed is built on a indian burial ground!just kidding, seriously,I piled a huge mound of sand over the whole area as high as that old bush stump in the middle,it also has 3" of pea gravel on top,the soil underneath is black very rich topsoil as the yew that was there shed leaves for 75 years, really the whole yard has excellent qaulity soil.I have dug down up to two feet and its still black!,it also drains well. This year we had so much rain that the sand and gravel have acted like mulch,so this spring I will work the existing sand a nd gravel 10" into the soil around whats already there and then redress with 2-3" of pea gravel.
Here are some more pics I tried to post earlier-

Thought you might like another look at my dress shoes Donnie-ROFL,I knew someone would get me for that!

Jim - by the looks of your winter protection and your shoes, you just might be the hardest working man west of the Mississippi.

You know,I was working 2 jobs(12+ hrs a day)when it came time to cover these!the thought did occur to me to just forget about it!when I planted all these thats all I had going at the time and I really enjoyed it as my(labor of love)only job-hobby.When it came time to put in the(heating)lights,I was racing against the first snowstorm,it snowed that night and went down to 10F the next night, alot of this was done in freezing weather, not how I planned on doing it but it was the only time to do it as I was scrambling to finish my last outdoor paint job of the season(I didn't,the cold beat me to the finish!)so I ended up only being able to do most all of this in the cold and maybe just in time,I am glad it is finished though and all the hard work is done so I can sit back and enjoy!and finally spend some time in the big"g/house" What a difference 2 months makes!!!!
