Term for conditioning cuttings

Hi! I'm translating a book where the following method of callusing is described: cuttings are placed bottoms up on ice and covered so as to create a contrast of temperatures between the top and the bottom. It encourages callus to form in a few weeks followed by roots.

Is there a term for this particular procedure?

Thanks!

Re: Translating from what language?

I'm translating from Russian into English. There is a Russian word for that procedure, but I can't find an English equivalent in any dictionary. The method is based on contrast of temperatures between the top (cold) and the bottom (warm) of a cutting.
Do you know what they call it in English?

There was a time when professional grape growers did something similar. I did a search and found something very similar using winter temperatures rather than ice
".. cuttings can be buried upside down either in bundles or the wrapped packages. If there is good drainage, you can bury them on the north side of a building--the coldest side. As the soil warms closer to the surface, it aids in callusing the bottoms of cuttings, which will be located near the surface." They gave no terminology for the method. That hughe and expensive Hartmann et. al. textbook may have a term for it.
