The benches were made from standard Ikea cabinetry (drawers) with a simple plywood top with matching white oak trim. The cushions were custom made to fit by a local upholsterer.

Do you by chance know the name of the drawers (and dimensions)? Did you cut the the top (of plywood) to enclose the drawer or for stability? (My wife and I are buying a place that is in desperate need of storage ideas & modern storage-benches are hard to come by.)

These were Ikea Godmorgon bathroom vanity drawer units. The plywood top does fasten to all of the cabinets for stability and they sit on added leveller legs.

did you have to by a Godmorgon cabinet that is 2 drawers high and cut it in half? I only see a 2 drawer sink cabinet, any other advice on how to replicate? Thanks!

Ikea is constantly changing what they offer. Here's a sink cabinet with only two drawers, side-by-side:

Thanks blackLAB! The annoying thing is that IKEA USA doesn't have these, while IKEA CANADA does... boo :(

(and they don't ship internationally. double boo)

The ones in the photo were sourced at the "Now or Never" (discontinued) section in the store. You never know what you might find.

Ouch! Just found the cabinets on the US IKEA site: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90147521/

... But they're twice as expensive as the same cabinets from the Canadian site! (triple boo? I think so. poor form ikea)

I just picked up the Godmorgon single cabinet from IKEA (Schaumburg, IL) for the sale price of $39.99!!! Now I just need to attach a top... blackLAB: what plywood did you use? how about fasteners? Lastly, what leg levelers did you use? Thanks for the inspiration - I'm on my way to economically, ergonomically, esthetically pleasing, modern storage-benches. Cheers!

Really simple leveller feet from Home Depot mounted in the bottom of the vertical frames on the Godmorgon (best mounting point):

The top could be any suitable sheet good. We used 3/4" poplar plywood as its a bit better than construction grade plywood and relatively inexpensive. As the bench was to have cushions, the plywood was just a support and the look didn't matter. The plywood did get a solid wood trim along the exposed edge below the cushions. Everything was put together and fastened to the wall with wood screws.

The taller cabinets are from Ikea. The door style is Nexus Honey Brown (though I believe it has been discontinued)
