Installing cabinets in laundry room

I am replacing the wire shelving we have in our laundry room and I was wondering when hanging cabinets do you have to place a cabinet in the corner. I'm asking because we would like to place the cabinet about 6 inches from the corner to prevent the door from hitting the alarm box when opening.

That should be fine. You could put in a filler strip if the empty space bothers you.
