I need helping with choosing a color for the siding. We are going to have a new roof installed, and the siding we have chosen is James Hardie Plank. We are going to go with the pre painted colors. IShould i go with the dark colors or stick to the lighter ones? We are not going to paint the brick part of the house. Thanks.

Hi Zandilen. I think a light color appears very warm and welcoming taking into account your house and its setting. Do you plan to change the color of your shutters? That could be a factor to take into account.

Thanks for your response. We are going to change the shutters. We are waiting to see how the roof and siding pan out before choosing a color for the shutters. Any suggestions will be most welcome.

Paint the brick in the same color as the siding and let your trim and entrance doors bring the color into play. Lighter color will make the home look larger and dark colors have the opposite effect.

Light to mid-tone color with your brick. If you can find somewhere that can give (sell) you one board or a piece of a broken board or something like that, I would encourage you to take that and look at it in your setting. We did our dormers with the Color Plus and selected from the small samples and the color looked good. Long story short - we ended up repainting it.

Thank you all for your comments. We are leaning towards Monterey Taupe. Cobblestone, Navajo Beige and Sandstone Beige are the "safe" alternatives in that order. I have a question, would Moire Black by Certainteed (Landmark 30 year) work well in my surroundings and with the color choices we are considering. Should I do the corners on the siding in white or keep them the same color as the siding. The trim will be painted simply white by Benjamin Moore.

I prefer the boothbay blue & heathered moss for the siding with shutters in cobblestone.

Be sure to check the warranty and make sure that you can repair any damage with matching paint before you go with the colored siding. Our local supplier does not recommend the colored fiber-cement siding but recommends going with siding you paint. The paint on Hardie lasts a long time (longer than on wood) and you can always repair it, etc.

We just sided our house in James Hardie primed. We then had it painted. Be sure your sider knows how to install the siding and what caulks to use (this is important) The color should last a long time--we have a fearsome south/west exposure in a very tall view home that leaked even with 2 layers of ceder siding (flat tongue and groove and lap) This stuff isn't gonna leak-but does need to be properly installed.
I say-don't paint the brick. Paint the siding a light color-I happen to like the whites/off white. Find some contrast in the shutters as long as it harmonizes with the roof color.
Cornerboards should be the same color as the body and not a trim color. They really are for function not as a feature to admire. They also accentuate the linear rather than the horizontal. Your house has a nice welcoming appearance on a horizontal plane. Not a designer here, just sayin'

I don't recommend Cobblestone, In time with exposure to the sun it looks mauve/pink.

Go with lighter colors and use additional insulation. We just resided our house and use new insulation designed specifically for fiber cement siding. See for yourself www.newlineinsulation.com Good luck

Wow the evening blue looks great against the brick. That would be my choice. Of course then you'd have to change the color of the shutters.

I too like the Heathered Moss color -- and not just because that's what we used on our house! We went with a 5-1/2" exposure.

We used Cobblestone and painted our stucco the same color in 2004. Plank was pre-painted and 13 years later looked brand-new. We also added Unilock faux stone up to mid window in a heathered beige/greige. Trim was white, roof was grey. Path and driveway in Unilock brussels block in greige. Our front door was stained walnut. Sold the house 5 months ago for the highest price in our community in the past 5 years. Never turned pink. I am using the same product, same color again now in my gut reno mid-century modern home...brick painted the same color as the Hardiplank...bluestone under portico, trim white (including the corners) Roof is light and not really visible since it's flat. Can't say enough about this product and this color/ We are doing a BMW bright navy high gloss for the front door. It stops traffic!

American Home Builders post illustrates the beautiful color but also how beautiful it looks without the shutters. The shutters on your home really don’t enhance the windows. If the brick is not discolored, frshen the trim and try without shutters.

77popham - what color did you paint your brick to match the cobblestone hardie plank siding? I just used the cobblestone hardie plank siding and need to paint my exterior chimney’s a color to match the siding, but am unsure what color would match. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
