"Oh my" Hubby took a look and says this stuff is put in the soil to keep the soil moist.I had no idea.I am so darn paranoid that I will get some bug and be the last to know. I guess I should change my user name to ding dong lol

LOL! Don't feel bad. When I first started gardening years and years ago I thought the small beige balls in potting soil that popped when you squashed them were dead rolly pollys (the color was weird for a rolly polly, but what did I know). Now I've learned of course that it's the leftover casing from used up Osmocote. As someone once told me: Ignorance can be helped, but stupid is forever. Now we both are smarter.

Wow! A moistening agent in sans. Sans like it dry. The fastest way to kill many of the sans varieities is to overwater.

Joanna,Yes isn't that odd?You can bet I do not water it to often.It came from lowes.I dont know who they got it from.Maybe they put it in there so they rarely have to water it which in turn makes their job easier.This is a guess though.Really though I thought they were some round worm.They look like a white beige rolly polly just like Mary1 described.

You all made my day. Cutiest story I've heard in a long time. Thank goodness for the forums, I learn something every day. I just hope I will live long enough to hear it all and remember half of it. I'm 75 now, hope I live enough to hear all the good things this group comes up with. Enjoy your hobby, it's been good to me, I've met so many wonderful new growers. Pass on what you learn to your kids. Sellers put those things in the soil, so during the summer months, they plants will have water when they need it most. People who work in those stores don't know yet that succulents need water to live just they do, and just don't water the cactus.
