I do either one of these....

A: put the whole stalk in a paper bag and let dry...once dryed out you can just scoop up the seed without too much chaff....

or...

What I did was to use a staple gun to staple some window screen replacement on a picture frame...Voila! pour seed and chaff onto surface and shake over a bowl!

I do the same as well; works for the most part, but sometimes the seed escapes from the paperbag. Not a huge loss though. I've also used large plastic chip/pretzel containers, and shake the dickens out of it. This way usually give me more chaff, but it's a small price to pay ;)

Thanks all. I am getting a lot more seed now, but the chaff is still a problem. Guess I'll leave it in mostly. Will try the screening, as the seeds are about right for it in size, and should at least remove the larve particles.
