They are females Joe. The males have a pretty red ring around their neck. I have not seen the male around my house for a couple of days, females still here this morning. The males head south before the females. They don't like back seat drivers.

Those are adorable photos!
Fall is the only time I see hummers around my flowers. I usually have a red geranium that only gets enough sun to bloom at this time of year. It really attracts them.
The cats -- who are on the other side of the screen -- are fascinated by them.

We still have humming birds too. I don't think I have seen any males for a couple weeks though - just the females. They should be leaving soon too.

Actually, I suspect that is an immature male (see the slight spots that suggest the beginning of his red throat). The females are the first to migrate.

Great photos! The hummers are migrating now, and we will go a few days with little activity before the next group arrives. I have one feeder that the bees keep finding and so I move it everything three days or so (keeping it in the same general area but it seems to lose the bees!).

Wonderful photos!! Don't you just love these little guys.. or gals? They are so special. We enjoy feeding and watching them, its such a treat. My activity is slowing way down, I believe they will be gone soon. I am so sad. I can't wait until March when they come back! Thank you for sharing your pictures. Love them!
Oh- I had a feeder that all of a sudden the bees went crazy over, turned out I had a small leak and they just went nuts over it. I went ahead and got rid of it and they seem to be gone now.

Saw one hummer yesterday Joe, None today, Sept 3. Guess it's trying to catch up with the rest of the bunch. Will be a long time until we see them again. I will try and have their feeders hanging out at tax paying time next year.

I left about dawn this morning and didn't see any at the honeysuckle vine. I think I saw one in flight, zipping across the yard this afternoon. They are probably about gone here too.

On the upside I have things blooming again that usually only bloom once in the spring. Skip laurels, gardinias, vitex... Weird.

Norm you don't put your feeders out till AP 15th???We get the scouts the last week of March...so I always put the feeders out by then.

Guess I should start putting our's out a little quicker. Told Barb this spring it was about time to put them out and looked outside low and behold there he was pearched on the crossbar waiting for the feeder. How they find the same place without stopping at a gas station and getting directions I will never understand.

Great pics! Sure am going to miss the hummers. Saw quite a few last week down by the creek -- they LOVE the Jewelweed down there.
