Gorgeous! What is the small palm front and center - a sabal? I have a baby Sabal minor on its third summer that I'm impatiently waiting to get bigger (would help if I stopped moving it around, I'm sure!).

I'm amazed how similar the leaves look to the tropical Rhapis palm that we grow as an indoor plant here.

gurley, I don't water the whole garden every day, but I water different parts of it almost every day; I would guess that I water any one spot about once a week. I don't know if it's my soil or being on a slope, but it dries out very quickly in the summer despite having a lot of clay. I've been improving the soil bit by bit, and it's reaching the point where it's almost a pleasure to dig in it!

Watergal, all the palms in that photo are Trachycarpus. The big one on the right is T. fortunei "Taylor form" from Plant Delights, planted a little more than 2 years ago (i.e., this is its third growing season); the smaller one in the front was labeled T. takil but there's considerable doubt as to the identity of plants sold under that name (it may just be another T. fortunei), planted last year; and the ones hiding in the back are T. wagnerianus that I grew from seed 5+ years ago. The waggies have been in the ground the longest, have suffered very little winter damage and have about doubled in size every year. I'm very pleased with them and I'm really looking forward to them bulking up to where they make a real impact in the garden.

I do have a Sabal minor seedling, not visible in these photos, and although it has been hardy it is verrrrry slow growing. It only puts out about 2 new leaves every year. I know other gardeners in the area with mature S. minors and they do look good once they finally get big enough to see!
