I am not growing Jubilee, but I have seen it and tasted it at the Fairchild Mango Festival. It is a very vivid color skinned fruit. It is a dark purple/maroon. According to the Fairchild mango book, it is of unknown parentage. There is no mention of Sensation or Irwin in the comments (although I can imagine why someone would assume that these mangoes may have been the parents based on their respective coloration). The book decribes the eating quality of the Jubilee as Fair to Good (on a scale of Poor, Fair, Good, and Excellent). It says it has medium fiber and tends to be watery and insipid in its flavor. Based on what I tasted, I think the book was being generous in its description of the flavor and overall eating quality.

Since Jubilee was part of the big pedigree study Richard Campbell and a few others did some years ago, there must be an example of it still in the Fairchild Garden and/or the TREC facility down in Homestead.

red mangos are beautiful but ive never found one that was really worth mentioning flavor wise. Kent is probably my favorite red, id give it a 3/5.

never tried an Irwin, but i would like to see what the Japanese are paying so much for.

I've had Irwin twice. The first time in 2008 I thought it tasted pretty insipid/bland. Second time, last year, it tasted pretty decent and I was surprised.

Thanks for the responses. It was in the Pedigree Analysis of Florida Mango Cultivars (Orlano, Schnell, Quintanilla & Campbell,2005) that I noticed this hybrid and its parentage. From what I have gathered the Irwin is a very consistent producer in situations when other varieties may be struggling, and has made a good parent in hybrids. So I was wondering if Jubilee has these good producing qualities and what its taste is like. But having been unable to find very much information about it then possibly it didn't turn out that successful. Or maybe it was an improvement over Irwin but was already superceeded by other varieties before it became popular.
