Thats it... That is the same species of tree I was trying to describe to you all. The bark and roots smell sort of like cinnamon. The leaves look just like my cinnamon zelanicum.(spelling?)

O.K. I checked out other posts on a cinnamon(z) tree. This trees leaves and bark do not smell. Not sure of the roots because it is still in the pot. I have a cinnamon purchased from a place called ECHO (they sell strictly eco friendly edible plants and seeds)here and while the leaves are similar they are not as elongated.

i know its not cinnamon zelanicum, but the roots do smell. Whatever it is I would really like to know what it is too.

well, it sure looks related! Those leaves and the bark look like MINE...

The Great Cinnamystery!

Lol. I just wanted to say, it's really pretty and healthy looking whatever it is.
How nice to have a HD with tropical fruit plants!

Cathie,

The HD in Deerfield Beach was selling Cinamomum zeylanicum. That is what yours looks like. To smell the leaves, you must crush them. It could possibly be C. cassia, which is sometimes used as a substitute or filler for cinamon. C. cassia leaves are smaller than zeylanicum.

Jerry

I saw it as Canella (Cinamomum zeylanicum) too.

I always thought that only the bark and roots has the all familiar cinnamon smell.
Hey your dog just moon me!

It is the exact same species I recently purchased. The only problem with it being cinnamon zelanicum is that the leaves do not smell when crushed. what else could it be?

Thanks for the help all. Just a note, I crushed the leaves and still do not get any smell other than a regular green leaf smell. I've planted it so I'll keep you posted on any new developments. Sorry for the unflattering view of my dog! lol

been there done that, seen doggie heinies! :D
