biriba
last autumn my 2 year old biriba tree flowered and at the same time it sent one sucker right from the tree base and decided not to cut it. a few months later there were three smallish fruits hanging and knowing its a potted fruit tree I should have pinched them but never came around to do so and they grew to became just bigger than a quarter coin in size. this morning went outside to check the tree and noticed there were no more leaves on it (it was progressively loosing leaves though), no fruits and most branches and seems most of the main stemm is dead, only the sucker (which by now is way taller than the tree itself was at one point) is alive and very healthy!!. What happened??? the fruits starved the main trunk and left intact the huge sucker (which comes from the lowest point of the main trunk)?? temperature issue? they are the same tree. perhaps the older leaves of the main trunk (which are almost a year older than those of the leaves of the sucker) just couldn´t handle anymore this rather long winter (milder than last winter, though)??
any clues?? cheers.
